The Great Mouse DetectiveThe 1986 animated mystery The Great Mouse Detective can be found on DVD, telling the story of how mouse detective Basil of Baker Street must help find the city’s master toymaker, kidnapped by the diabolical Professor Ratigan.

As with many of the latest Disney DVD releases, this one includes materials ORIGINAL DVD FEATURES from previous releases along with new BONUS FEATURES.

The one new feature is SO YOU THINK YOU CAN SLEUTH? (4:42). The first three minutes of this piece helps to “discover” the history of detectives. In Disney tradition, this is actually entertaining as well as educational. In addition to plenty of cleverly incorporated clips from Mouse Detective, there’s quite an abundance of clips from silent movies and various Disney shorts to keep it fun. The last minute and a half gives you clues to a mystery of a family cookie jar which has had all the cookies stolen from it, then giving you the answer and reasoning as to how to conclude who the thief is.

“THE WORLDS’ GREATEST CRIMINAL MIND” SING-ALONG SONG is one of two of the classic bonus features, complete with the lyrics that highlight throughout the song.

THE MAKING OF THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE (7:52) is a classic “making of” piece with a wonderful vintage feel. This has a relaxing slow pace, allowing for some great behind-the-scenes footage. There are also interviews with some of the Hollywood greats involved in the film including Vincent Price, singer Melissa Manchester and composer.

Hope I’ve helped you uncover what’s on The Great Mouse Detective DVD so it’s no mystery.
